So-called “traceability” is now
applicable to Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, Rosso
DOC and Vin Santo DOC. Anyone buying one of these three
DOC wines can just type in some simple information found
on the bottle in the space provided to obtain
information about the product.
The programme
automatically provides data about the number of bottles
produced in this batch, basic analytical details
(alcohol content, dry extract and total acidity) and of
course, information about the producer.
This service is active
for all vintages of Vino Nobile from 2001 to the present
(the reference number to type in is found on the neck
sticker around the foil covering), vintages of Rosso
from 2003 onwards and Vin Santo (using the bottling
batch number as a reference for vintages prior to
January 2007, after which date these wines will also
have a neck sticker and follow the same procedure as the
Vino Nobile).
This new and important service for
even the most scrupulous and demanding consumers is
offered by Vino Nobile producers through the Consorzio,
in order to provide clearer information about the
products and strict guarantees of quality.
The creation
of a “traceability route” is the result of a significant
project delegated to the Consorzio by the Ministry of
Agriculture in 2004: the project involves monitoring,
through a series of tests, of a wine’s progress from the
vineyard to the glass, and is indispensable to ascertain
whether the production specifications are fully
respected.
The tests and monitoring are
financed by the producers themselves and begin in the
vineyards, moving on to the cellar and finally to the
last test, on the bottled wine, for correspondence to
the specifications.
Monitoring is carried out right across the production
network, including wineries that are not members of the
Consorzio and are registered under the "Nobile"
D.O.C.G., Rosso andVin Santo D.O.C.
denominations.
The experts do not only carry out
product analysis, but also visit the vineyards and
cellars.
All
the monitoring is carried out in the name of greater
clarity and the result is a reiteration of the quality
of this product – wine – and a further guarantee for the
consumer.
